Uganda Bujuku Valley is a fantastic example of a naturally processed Ugandan coffee. This "rainforest alliance certified" coffee is sourced from smallholder farmers in the Rwenzori region of south-west Uganda where it is double handpicked to optimise quality.
Situated at the feet of the Rwenzori mountains just north of Lake George, the region around Kasese has excellent conditions for speciality Arabica production with some of the highest altitude in Uganda, fertile soil and plentiful rainfall. However widespread poverty and a lack of infrastructure, as well as the political upheaval in Uganda over the past 40 years has meant this region has struggled to realise its full potential for speciality arabica production.
This is changing over time, with a number of specialty producers now engaging with smallholder farmers throughout the Rwenzori's to improve both quality and yield, and ultimately establish a more sustainable and equitable coffee sector in the region.
This coffee is so good that, as well as forming part of our flagship Bealach blend, we wanted to offer a limited amount as a stand-alone, single origin. In the cup, expect a lovely, pronounced tropical fruit acidity with undertones of biscuit and nuts which works flawlessly over all brewing methods.
